Troubleshooting: Camera Not Detected in MouthWatch Capture or Imaging Software
If your camera is not being detected by the MouthWatch Capture software or your imaging software, the issue may be caused by Windows camera privacy settings or a connection-related problem.
Try the methods below to restore camera detection.
Method 1 – Check Windows Camera Privacy Settings
- Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera.
- Under Allow access to the camera on this device, select Change, then make sure Camera access for this device is turned On.
- If the option is grayed out, you will need a Windows Administrator to enable it.
- After turning it on, unplug the MouthWatch camera and plug it back in to refresh detection.
Method 2 – Check Connections
- Identify the setup: Check whether the camera is connected through a USB hub, docking station, or extension cable.
- Remove extra connections: Unplug the camera from any hub, dock, or extension cable.
- Connect directly to the computer: Plug the camera straight into a USB port.
- On desktops, use a rear USB port on the tower.
- On laptops, use a built-in port.
- Test the camera: Open your imaging software and see if the camera is detected.
- Try another port if needed: If not detected, move the camera to a different USB port and test again.

Method 3 – Check Device Manager
- Open the Start menu, type Device Manager, and open it.
- Expand the Cameras section.
- Look for USB Video Device, this indicates that Windows recognizes the MouthWatch camera correctly.
- If you do not see USB Video Device, unplug the camera and plug it back in, or try another USB port.
