Instructions for Apteryx (XV Lite) Integration
MouthWatch cameras easily integrate with Apteryx’s XV Lite imaging software. Use the MouthWatch camera to capture images of the patient and store them directly into the patient record.
You can use the MouthWatch Button Capture Software if you like, but in many cases images can be captured directly through XV Lite.
Option 1 – Without MouthWatch Button Capture Software
Step 1 – Plug in the MouthWatch Camera
Make sure you plug the USB connector into a powered USB port. Sometimes these are located on the front or back of the computer. If your monitor has USB ports, these may not be powered.
If setting up a MouthWatch Plus+, use a USB 3.0 port.
Step 2 – Confirm Windows Detects the Camera
Once the MouthWatch camera is plugged in, Windows should display a notification that new hardware (USB Video Device) was recognized.
Step 3 – Set Preferences in XV Lite
- Click Preferences.
- A list of preferences will display.
- Select Imaging.
- Select Video Device Type.
- Click OK, then click Done.
Step 4 – Acquire Images for a Patient
- Select a patient.
- Click Acquire Image.
- The DirectVideo window will display.
- In the DirectVideo window, click Video Options → Still Pin and Other Video Sizes.
- Select I want to capture from the Still Pin.
- Set the resolution to 640x480, or 1920x1080 for Plus+ cameras.
- Click OK.
Clicking the capture button will save images to the sidebar as thumbnails. When you click Done, the images will be assigned to the patient record.
Option 2 – With MouthWatch Button Capture Software
Step 1 – Download the Button Capture Software
If setting up a MouthWatch Plus+, make sure to install the required driver by checking the box during installation.
- Once installed, right-click the MouthWatch Capture icon in the lower right corner of your screen.
- A menu will display. Left-click Apteryx.
If you don’t see the MouthWatch Capture icon, click the ^ button to expand the System Tray. You can drag and drop the icon from the expanded System Tray down to your Taskbar.
Step 2 – Plug in the MouthWatch Camera
Make sure you plug the USB connector into a powered USB port. Sometimes these are located on the front or back of the computer. If your monitor has USB ports, these may not be powered.
Step 3 – Confirm MouthWatch Capture Detects the Camera
Once the camera is plugged in, the MouthWatch Capture icon should turn blue in the system tray, indicating it sees the camera.
Step 4 – Capture Video Image
Repeat the same DirectVideo steps from Option 1, with one change in the capture settings.
- In the DirectVideo window, click Video Options → Still Pin and Other Video Sizes.
- Select I want to capture from standard video stream.
- Set the resolution to 640x480, or 1920x1080 for Plus+ cameras.
- Click OK.
If there is no option for Capture Video Image, or you do not see the Direct Capture Extension, you may need to install the latest DirectVideo plugin. Visit http://www.apteryx.com/apteryx-updates-site and look for DirectVideo (updates the DCV IX for DirectVideo).
The DirectVideo window will begin streaming video from the MouthWatch camera.
- Press the capture button to save the image.
- When you close the window, the images will save to the patient record.
Step 5 – All Done!
You are now ready to capture images directly into XV Lite.
